Woodland Springs Touring Park
Open All Year
A caravan and camping site exclusively for adults situated in the Dartmoor National Park in Devon. This is a tranquil and secluded site that caters for caravans, motor homes and tents. Access is quick and easy from the A30. Seasonal pitches available.
Ideal for those wishing to go caravanning and camping in Dartmoor and Devon and an ideal base for discovering Cornwall and the South West.
We are surrounded by farm and woodland with walks from the site.
Dogs and pets are welcome.
Chris and Jan Patrick own and run the site and would welcome the opportunity to be your hosts.
Don't forget Devon is not a county you go through to get to Cornwall it is a beautiful place in its own right and many folk from Cornwall come here to get away from it all.
We are signatories to the Dartmoor Charter for Sustainable Tourism and have achieved Charter status, an achievement we are proud of. We are members of Tranquil Parks , the Association of Exclusively Adult Touring Parks.
The Woodland Springs Touring Park is situated in a secluded and tranquil hamlet which is inside the beautiful Dartmoor National Park, Devon. Access to the site is excellent from the A30 with no narrow lanes to travel down. We welcome caravans, motor-homes and tents for which we provide the most natural surroundings.
With this in mind, the Park has been maintained in keeping with the natural environment to encourage wildlife. Deer, foxes and rabbits are regular visitors and with over 45 species of birds seen on the park over the past few years.
It makes an ideal base for bird watching. There is a small area of uncut land that has been left for the natural growth of plants, grass and trees. It is also a haven for insects, birds and small mammals. Our park changes greatly through the seasons. You can see a large variety of flora and fauna, these are documented in the Wealth of Wildlife report that is available for you to read in reception.
For those of a more energetic persuasion there are many invigorating walks on the adjoining moor. Golf, fishing, swimming and horse riding are all to be found nearby and the sandy beaches of Devon are only a 45 minute drive.
Woodland Springs' excellent central location and access to main routes makes it an ideal base for touring Devon and Cornwall.
Make sure you visit the nearby attractions of Castle Drogo, Spinsters Rock, Finch Foundry, The Mythic Garden and Bowden Hostas. There is also Fernworthy reservoir just outside Chagford that has some spectacular views what ever time of year you go. You must also visit Dartmoor itself.
If you like to spend your time reading or painting and drawing Woodland Springs is the ideal place for you. It's also a great place to hide away and simply relax.
The Park is usually attended and night time security is maintained by the gate being locked at 11:00pm and reopened at 07:30am. Chris and Jan live on site and are available if you have any questions, problems or need an extra pair of hands with your awning etc.
We have been caravanning for 30 years and like to think we have a good idea of what our visitors would like.
The toilet block has free hot water and showers and is also centrally heated. We also have a laundry and small shop and are also Calor agents.
Woodland Springs is a four acre (1.6 he) park enjoying stunning views across Dartmoor and is surrounded by woodland and neighbouring fields. At present our own woodland attached to the park are not accessible to our visitors but with a lot of hard work we are hoping to put in paths for walks so everyone can enjoy the beauty of the woodland and the wild life that can be seen there.
There are many varied eating and drinking establishments in the area.
There are local shopping facilities in Chagford and Okehampton. Chagford being a small stannary town with traditional shops and Okehampton being a more modern town with a mixture of traditional butchers, bakers and supermarkets.

The Environment
We are working towards maintaining the environment here and as such adopt a management strategy that ensures the area of Woodland Springs and the adjoining land owned by us is kept in such away as to encourage wildlife and to protect the species of plants, trees and the wildlife we have.
We are signatories to the Dartmoor Charter for Sustainable Tourism and have acheived chartered status. We are part of the Wealth of Wildlife Project run by the Dartmoor National Park Authority. A wildlife information file has been prepared for us by Sue Searle, Wealth of Wildlife Project Officer for Dartmoor National Park Authority. Giving information about the plants, birds and animals on site and in the local area the file includes a wildlife survey, species lists and information about Dartmoor's special wildlife and local nature reserves. The Wealth of Wildlife project is designed to help visitors enjoy the wildlife close to the place they are staying and is available in reception.
Part of our land is an ancient wet woodland. We are hoping to have some walks available through it once it has dried out a bit but this may take a year or two yet.
We have planted approximately 120 trees that are native to Dartmoor in a strip of land we own with assistance from the Dartmoor National Park. They provided the trees under the the Amenity Tree Scheme. This is one of the Conservation Grants that is in their power to give. The trees run from along the top edge of the woodland to the tree line at the bottom of the dog exercise area (the paddock). The species of trees planted are:
* Rowan - Sorbus Aucuparia
* Ash - Fraxinus excelsior
* Wild Cherry - prunus avium
* Dogwood - cornus sanguinea
* Silver Birch - betula pendula
* Field Maple - acer campestre
* Crab Apple - malus sylvestris
* English Oak - quercus robur
* Alder Buckthorn - frangula alnus
Locality
Woodland Springs is situated in the north east part of Dartmoor National Park about 1.5 miles from Whiddon Down on the A382 off the A30. We are in the hamlet of Venton, it is not shown on most maps due to the small size of the hamlet. We have excellent access, Exeter, Plymouth and the English Riviera are all accessible from here as is Cornwall and Somerset. There are a great many things to see and do in the area.
There are many events in the area throughout the year so why not plan your visit so you can make the most of these.
